The male Resplendent Quetzal, Pharomachrus mocinno, with its irridescent colors and long tail coverts is arguably the most spectacular bird in the Americas. Because the tail coverts are so long, they always extend out of the nesting hole when the male quetzal is on the nest. It is native to high montane cloud forests from southeastern Mexico to western Panama.
